Now the borders are slowly re-opening, and if you are planning to travel to Sri Lanka, remember to visit beautiful Colombo and book a few days to explore the capital. There are so many treasures to choose from. Herewith is a small selection based on my experiences when I lived here in 2019.

Experience a Culinary Tour
Select a tour that includes a visit to the local market, the fruits and vegetables are out of this world, fresh, sweet, fragrant. It's a great way of exploring the city, the landmarks and you will be able to try some fantastic local dishes as hoppers with pol sambol, jack fruit curry and kottu.
Local Food Markets
On Saturday morning, don't forget to visit the sustainable Good Market (IG: @goodmarket.lanka). This market provides a platform for local entrepreneurs and small businesses to showcase their local and sustainable products and produce. And again, a great location to sample local cuisine, my favourites: naran and mint juice, coconut pancakes and pol roti with.. sambol.

Beautiful Beaches
Walk along the shore of Mount Lavinia Beach towards the city and have a late lunch at Sugar Beach, a chilled out beach club with live entertainment in the weekend. They offer a fragrant Sri Lankan crab curry with roasted pan and a cold Lion beer, not to be missed. https://www.facebook.com/sugarbeachsl

Ayurvedic Experiences
A visit to Spa Ceylon. This is a luxury Sri Lankan spa experience focusing on traditional Ayurvedic methods and products. They have salons in various locations across town. My favourite salon is located next to the Dutch Hospital, one of the oldest buildings in Colombo in the old Fort area, now a heritage building with great shots and restaurants, the foot massage will not disappoint. While you are there, don't forget to check out the local products Barefoot Boutique and sample local crab, in any size for any taste, at the acclaimed Ministry of Crab.
Architecture & Design
For the architecture lovers out there. Visit the home of Geoffrey Bawa, located in the heart of the city. Bawa is the father of tropical modernism and his architecture is famed throughout the globe. After the tour, have a slice of heavenly pie at the Gallery Cafe. This cafe was the former office of Bawa and filled with his characteristics and effortless style.
